I don't see any reason that it isn't working--our CP does not differentiate between gif, jpg, or bmp--just pixel size. I did change the gif setting for the sig just now, so try your avatar again to see if that somehow helps.

They're allowed as long as they fit whatever size requirements Heidi and Susan have set up. When you upload your avatar file, you will get a message that says "Upload failed", but that's bogus. You can check by going to another page and coming back to the "Edit Avatar" page. If your chosen avatar is displayed in the "current avatar" box, it worked. ISTR that has happened before on other forums that use the same software, so I think it's an issue with the forum software itself.
